Ralph Bakshi,

legendary, renowned animation & movie director, of Cool World, Fire and Ice, Wizards, & Lord of the Rings 1978,

has seen World Gone Mad

Here is his review:

Ron first let me tell you how much I loved the film, the staging great, the not taking it self seriously but not trying to be cool by letting me know you know is perfect filmmaking. You avoided all the clichés and put together a fun film. The hero was ugly and strange, that made it great, same with the girl. The setting was also perfect, the pacing, cutting great. —— Hollywood has trouble with this kind of movie. They think Pixar only. ——If it would be helpful I will write a quote to be used by your distributor anywhere. ...I want to show it around. ...Congrats, Heavy Traffic was also honest. You have just joined the club. — What would it take to do another one? Ralph.

Ralph Bakshi, my experience

His films, “Lord of the Rings” 1978 & “Wizards” 1977 & “Fire & Ice” 1983 and his notorious attitude were some of my biggest influence. As I kid, I had “Lord of the Rings” on VHS, on playback every morning as I ate Lucky Charms & Captain Crunch, getting ready for school far far away from Hollywood.  I couldn’t stand the kid morning shows, but loved the ‘film making’ of Bakshi before I even knew what ‘film making’ was. So for him to give me a nod is pretty DEEP. But let’s not get all teary.

My film is a niche of a niche, but its also fun and entertaining. Its stop motion like style, simplistic CG characters, still hits hard. I did away with complicated storylines or character arcs to get into a journey driven world, a… where is this movie going… oh no he didn’t!.. kind of experience.

2011—Fall, been inspired by “The Hobbit” production blogs. And just got the LOTR on Blu-ray. So I think I want to relive that in my work. Developing something along the lines of Moria, “Dwarves in the Deep”. A tough Dwarf fighting his way through gobbos and orcs in a dwarven mine & cavern system. I’m hoping it will tie in nicely with hoopla for “The Hobbit” and folks wanting to see something cool like that. And give me some hits on my youtube channel.

2011—Fall, working on several different projects, to figure out what my next path will be. Been trying to figure out my market. Since it’s not DVD features any longer. So I’ve been looking into my youtube channel as my means to an end.

2011—Summer, nix on ‘Knight of the Dead’.  Partner too busy on paying gigs. I can’t wait around… gotta go solo again.

2011 March

New youtube channel, new work, on a CG-live action feature, Knight of the Dead.

2011– end of 2010

Got sucked into this… based off my own live action wants and needs, a fellow CG director and I are in dev for this new project. Imagine a zombie apocalypse… typical…?... Except the survivor is a modern day medieval fighter! Fully armored, sword, shield, helmet, and ready to fight! Using his canon 5D, greenscreen, and motion capture style production, we plan on busting out a feature. That’s me ‘acting’ and I look so handsome! I will be adding zombies shortly, and more stuff soon!

Fall 2010

Working on finishing “Space Merc”, getting closer.

July 2010…

“World Gone Mad” has distribution in Thailand. Yay! I had to make my 1st PAL Digibeta… what a chore! Thanks Robert Yap of Silverline Ent for you perseverance!

June 2010

Developed “The End of What’s Left”.

May 2010

Learned the latest greatest rendering techniques & animation methods. Phew!  Stuff looks more realistic… now means harder work!
